Renaming campaign names & refresh data - How it works

If campaign names you updated in your ad platform are not reflected in spyne, or if you're unsure what happens when you click "Refresh", this article explains the key behaviors to know.

Cet article est disponible uniquement en anglais. Si vous avez besoin d'aide en français, n’hésitez pas à nous contacter.

How are campaign names updated in spyne?

When you rename a campaign directly in your ad platform (e.g., Google Ads, Meta), spyne doesn't automatically update that name across all historical data.

Here's how it works:

  • Last 30 days: campaign names are automatically updated on each sync.

  • Older data (30+ days): behavior depends on the platform.

The update behavior for historical data varies depending on the source:

  • Some APIs return all campaign names on every sync — in this case, historical data is always up to date, even for older campaigns.

    • Pinterest

    • Apple Ads

  • Other sources only return names for recent data — in this case, older records stay frozen with the original name. You will need to contact the spyne team to update them.

    • All data sources

If your source requires a manual update, you need to contact the spyne support team. We will be able to handle a full historical refresh after discussing the implications with you.

⚠️ Why can't I trigger this myself? A full data refresh is a destructive action — it overwrites historical data. Additionally, some platforms (e.g., Amazon DSP) only provide 90 days of history via their API. To prevent accidental data loss, this action is not exposed in the spyne interface and is managed manually by our team.

"Refresh Access" vs. "Refresh Data" — what's the difference?

These two actions are often confused but serve very different purposes.

Action

What it does

When to use it

Refresh Access

Renews the OAuth connection token only. Does not update your data.

spyne has lost access to your account (e.g., after a password change or permission revocation).

Refresh Data

Triggers a new data sync from the platform.

Your data is outdated and you want to pull the latest results.

⚠️ Clicking "Refresh Access" will not update your campaign names or metrics. It only reestablishes the connection between spyne and your ad platform.
