What is a mapping dictionary?

A mapping dictionary is a simple table that tells the system how to replace one value with another in your dimension mapping.

  • Input → the value that comes from your data (the one you want to replace).

  • Output → the value that will appear in your dimension value (the value you want to be replaced by).

The system automatically swaps every input with the output you define, keeping your data clean and consistent.

🔎 Example

Input (term to replace)

Output (replaced by)

United States

USA

U.S.A.

USA

US

USA

👉 No matter how the country is written in the campaign name, it will always show up as “USA” in your dimension values.

How to create your Google Sheet dictionary

  1. Open a Google Sheet.

  2. Create your dictionary using this template. The dictionary must have 2 columns:

    • Column A → Input (term to be replaced)

    • Column B → Output (replacement terms)

  3. Make sure all inputs in Column A are unique (no duplicates).

  4. Share the sheet with [email protected] as a Viewer, so Spyne can access it.

How to link your Google Sheet dictionary to Spyne

  1. Once your Google Sheet is ready, go to Dimension Mapping in Spyne.

  2. You can create a new dimension or edit an existing dimension.

  3. In the “Then” step, specify the naming position (e.g., the third part after splitting the name by “_”, which corresponds to the country name). Then select “Replace from dictionary.”

  4. Click Connect dictionary to link your Google Sheet.

  5. Enter the Google Sheet URL.

  6. Select the tab. The tab name is set by default, but you can edit it.

  7. By default, Column A is the input (terms to be replaced) and Column B is the output (replacement terms).

  8. Click Connect

Using Multiple Dictionaries for Successive Corrections

In some cases, you may need to apply more than one dictionary to clean or standardize your data. Spyne allows you to use a another dictionary in a successive step after the first one.

  • The first dictionary replaces the initial values (e.g. correcting terms or inconsistent names).

  • The second dictionary can then be applied to further adjust or standardize those new values.

If you modify your dictionary

If you modify your dictionary in Google Sheets, the changes will not be updated on the same day. Data is refreshed once per day, so your updates will appear the following day. If you would like the changes to take effect immediately, please remove the old dictionary and reconnect it
